DoubleShore.Kit.ContentCleanup 1.0.204
DoubleShore Content Cleanup
Find and safely clear unused / unreferenced content pages in the Umbraco backoffice (v14+ / new backoffice).
Umbraco can tell you what is referenced (the References tab), but there's no built-in way to find and clear the draft pages that nothing links to and that never went live. Content Cleanup adds a Cleanup dashboard to the Content section that lists pages that don't appear to be used anywhere, and lets you move them to the Recycle Bin — reversibly.
Features
- Orphaned pages — a review list of unpublished pages that nothing links to, with honest labels: Likely unused vs Check first. It uses the same inbound-link analysis as Content Insights, so the two features agree on what "orphan" means.
- Published pages are safe — a published page is never a cleanup candidate and is never auto-cleaned. If nothing links to one it is shown read-only for information only, never selectable.
- Branch safety — a page with any published descendant can't be selected; you'll never recycle a branch that is partly live.
- Safe by default — everything goes to the standard Content Recycle Bin (restorable); nothing is permanently deleted from the review screen.
- Recycle Bin manager — list, restore, and (opt-in) permanently empty items past a grace period.
- Version cleanup — see Umbraco's configured version-retention policy, the nodes with the most stored versions, and trigger Umbraco's built-in version prune on demand.
- Protected pages, branches, and doc types — pin anything so it's never listed. Configuration/settings doc types are protected out of the box.
- Optional automation — scheduled auto-clean (move likely-unused to the Recycle Bin) and auto-empty. Both off unless you enable them.
- Non-technical friendly, English + Portuguese, native Umbraco (UUI) styling.
Install
Install the DoubleShore.Kit.ContentCleanup NuGet package, then run the Kit content sync so the backoffice assets land on disk:
dotnet msbuild /t:UpdateDoubleShoreKitContent
Open the backoffice → Content → Cleanup. Access is gated to users with the Content section.
Notes
- Detection is only as good as what the site exposes. A draft referenced solely from external systems, or by editors that store IDs in ways the reference tracker can't see, may show as unused — which is why the tool labels uncertainty as Check first and never hard-deletes from the review screen.
- The only irreversible steps are the opt-in auto-empty (its grace period is the safety net) and the version cleanup (which only runs Umbraco's own policy-honouring prune).
