DoubleShore Section Library

A backoffice extension for Umbraco 17 that lets editors save and reuse Block Grid sections across pages and projects. It combines a set of curated kit defaults (read-only, shipped with the package) with a user library that editors build up themselves.

Features

• Save any Block Grid section as a reusable template, capturing its full layout, content, settings, and exposed-block data.
• Browse and insert templates from a backoffice picker, with name, description, icon, optional thumbnail, and free-form tags for organisation and filtering.
• Curated "kit" templates shipped with the package (read-only) alongside editor-created "user" templates (read/write).
• User templates are persisted in App_Data; thumbnails are stored inline as base-64 data URLs so templates stay self-contained.
• Manage templates (create, rename/update metadata, delete) through a Management API, gated by a permission service.

Installation

dotnet add package DoubleShore.Kit.SectionLibrary

The backoffice extension registers automatically once the package is installed — no manual configuration is required.

Usage

The Section Library works against Umbraco's Block Grid editor:

1. While editing a Block Grid property, save the current section into the library, giving it a name and optionally a description, icon, thumbnail, and tags.
2. Saved templates (together with the curated kit defaults) appear in the section-library picker, where you can search and filter by tag.
3. Insert a template to drop its captured Block Grid section into the current Block Grid.

Kit defaults are read-only; templates an editor saves are stored in the user library and can be renamed or deleted later.
